Welcome to Scottish Borders Dialogue Youth
Dialogue Youth is alive and kicking in the Scottish Borders, with a co-ordinator in post since November 2003 and two development workers who started in September 2004. We have also worked closely with the voluntary youth work sector and fund four part-time posts based with local youth projects.
Over 8,000 Young Scot packs have been distributed thoughout the area and we also set up a free swimming initiative, Splash for less cash, which gave young people access to eight local pools during the summer and October school holidays – this will continue in Easter 2005. We are now beginning to progress work towards developing a smartened Young Scot card.
We are actively involved in the Teenage Transitions element of the Joint Health Improvement Plan and have been working with young people to complete questionnaires that will feed into the planning process.
Our development workers are based within two secondary schools and they have been involved in supporting the citizenship agenda, as well as establishing discounter groups and Hack Pack teams.
We have also worked closely with our Community Safety Forum and Dialogue Youth has been allocated a small pot of funding from the local action fund to distribute to youth projects in the area.
The Dialogue Youth initiative receives good support within the area and has been integrated within our Children and Young Person's Strategy and the Community Learning & Development Strategy.
